Mice

Mice are a part of British wildlife, when they are outside they are not a problem in the slightest and are not considered pests. When they move indoors though it’s a different story and their presence is not something that you should just ignore.

Active all year round, mice are one of the most common pest species in the UK. They have been known to spread nasty diseases – such as Salmonella and Listeria – to humans through their urine, droppings and bedding.

Electric cables, water and gas pipes, packaging and woodwork may all be seriously damaged by mice – many instances of electrical fires and floods have been attributed to them.

Females become sexually mature at about six weeks and males at about eight weeks. One pair can have between five and eight litters per year. The gestation period is roughly 19-21 days and the female will give birth to a litter of between three and 14 young (the average is about six to eight). So one female has the potential to give birth to eight litters of 14 young in just one single year – that’s 112 mice produced from just one breeding pair.
Breeding can occur throughout the year, though less so in colder months. Nonetheless, preventative pest control measures still need to be taken during the winter to ensure your premises are mouse-free before the weather warms and breeding begins once more.

For any mice infestation, we would always recommend contacting a professional pest control company. We are trained and experienced in mice control and will use a combination of trapping, exclusion, and where necessary; professional use rodenticides. We also have extensive monitoring tools and techniques to ensure your mouse problem has gone for good.
